Local Legend: Alec Nickel | Wisconsin Fishing Guide
Share
Alec is a local legend because of the way he lives life on the water. As a full-time fishing guide and content creator based in Sturgeon Bay, he spends more time surrounded by waves, wind, and wild beauty than most of us could ever hope for. His love for the outdoors is honest and contagious — whether he’s chasing trophy fish, teaching his next client, or creating original outdoor content.
Alec reminds us that being outdoors isn’t just something you do — it’s something that shapes who you are. His drive, discipline, and deep connection to the Great Lakes region make him someone we’re proud to call a local legend.
We're lucky to have people like Alec out there doing what they love, and sharing it with others in a way that inspires us to get out there too.
1. What do you love to do outdoors, and why?
I love being outdoors in general — from playing sports to fishing and hunting. But I spend most of my time fishing and just love every aspect of it: being on the water, enjoying the fresh air and scenery, and of course, catching fish.
2. What makes the Great Lakes region special?
The Great Lakes region is very special in many ways. I love the beautiful scenery on the shorelines and the flowing creeks and rivers. There are so many outdoor recreation opportunities here - whether it’s fishing, hunting, hiking, or camping. Living on a Great Lake (Michigan) means being able to fish for a huge variety of species.
3. How are you connected to this area?
I’m connected to the area by living in Sturgeon Bay and working here full-time as a fishing guide and content creator.
4. Do you have a favorite memory, moment, or place that stands out to you?
I really enjoy visiting the lighthouses — whether it’s passing by in the boat or taking them in from shore.
5. How has your passion for the outdoors impacted your life?
It’s driven me. It’s helped shape me into a more focused, motivated, and well-rounded individual.
